- Telemedicene is a type of medication management where the doctor provides medication services in one location while the consumer is in a different location. Telemedicine is provided with the use of video conference equipment. The consumer has a video screen and sees the doctor from their location and the doctor also has a video screen and sees the consumer from a different location. The use of the video conference equipment makes it a face to face meeting, despite the fact that the two individuals might be 30 miles or more apart. There are several advantages to providing telemedicine services. One of the advantages is that in rural areas, it is often difficult for consumers to have access to psychiatrist / physicians due to a variety of factors (i.e. poverty, lack of reliable transportation, decreased time off work for the consumer, etc.). Another advantage is that even though Telemedicine is considered as "face to face", it may be more comfortable for individuals who may be anxious about meeting with a doctor in person.
